Motel shooter allegedly tells police: “I shot the **** out of him, for no reason”

New information has been released about the events that led to the death of a 17-year-old at the Regency Inn Motel in the area formerly known as Town West.

Kamyra Smallwood, 24, was arrested following the incident on Thursday night, as reported by multiple news outlets, including the Sapulpa Times.

According to an arrest affidavit, Sapulpa police found Smallwood walking in the motel parking lot after they had been called to the scene about “a person outside with a firearm.” Police say she had a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in her waistband, and that in the process of being detained, she told one of the officers she had “shot” the victim.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was found in the room of the motel with multiple gunshot wounds. Police reported finding “multiple spent shell casings on the floor, as well as spent bullet projectiles near the body.”

In the arrest affidavit, police report that during transport to the Sapulpa Police Department, Smallwood made “multiple utterances without being questioned about the shooting.” One of those spontaneous utterances was when she allegedly told the officers in the car, “I shot the sh*t out of him, for no reason.”

Later, Smallwood was interviewed by Sapulpa police detectives and told police that she “has impulse issues,” and police reported that “during the course of the interview, she would become angry.”

According to police, Smallwood admitted to providing the victim and his girlfriend with alcohol and marijuana before the shooting began. She said she began arguing with the victim because he thought she was flirting with his girlfriend. Smallwood said the victim wanted to fight her, but he was bigger and she was afraid, so she shot him. She also said that although he immediately fell to the floor, she shot him again multiple times, “to keep him from getting up,” according to the arrest affidavit.

The affidavit also says that Smallwood told police she took the gun “from a scene in Tulsa” but would not elaborate. She then claimed she shot the victim in self-defense.

A records check of Smallwood found a charge for “inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/co-inhabitant” from Los Angeles, California, as well as multiple drug and assault charges in both Minneapolis and Tulsa County.

Smallwood has been charged with first-degree murder and other charges.
