SAPULPA – Youth Services of Creek County broke ground Friday on a $1 million expansion, allowing this Sapulpa-based agency to greatly expand its services.
“Right now, we’re on a 30-day wait list for our therapy program clients,” said Executive Director Erin Brook, LCSW. “Our school-based program also has schools on a waitlist because we just don’t have enough therapists to fulfill that.
“This expansion will allow us to serve more children,” she said. “More children and more families.”
Launched in 1987, Youth Services is a 4,000-square-foot shelter for children ages 0 to 17 in the custody of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services or Oklahoma Juvenile Affairs. The Creek County organization provides therapy and counseling services for schools and families, along with residential services for up to 14 children.
This 3,500-square-foot addition, designed by Reed Architecture and Interiors of Sapulpa, will give the agency seven new offices for its 13-member staff.
“Right now, all of our therapists share offices,” said Brook. “When this is complete, everyone will have their own offices.”
That will enable Youth Services to hire more therapists, she said, which should allow the agency to eliminate its therapy program waiting list.
“We actually have three positions open right now,” said Brook. “Once those positions are filled, we hope to continue expanding.”
This addition also includes a conference room, support spaces, and a new entrance for therapy services. Youth Services will dedicate the existing entrance to residents.
“These additions will give their daily clients and their overnight clients more privacy,” said David Reed, founder of Reed Architecture.
General contractor Schaffer Industries of Sapulpa hopes to start work on Monday. Owner Jorg Schaffer expects to complete the project within six months.
Youth Services will fund the project through funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
