What to Do This Weekend (March 14 – March 17)

Political meetings, painting classes, furry friends, and St. Patrick’s Day are all going on this weekend!

Thursday, March 14

“Protecting Your Money” Free Seminar at First United Bank, 315 East Dewey Avenue in Sapulpa. Dinner is at 5 p.m. and the presentation begins at 5:30. The guest speaker is Elaine Dodd, who is the Executive Vice President with the Fraud Division at Oklahoma Bankers’ Association. Sapulpa Artists’ Guild Paint Classes from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Sapulpa Senior Citizen Center, 515 East Dewey Avenue. The class is free and help is available from art teacher Sam Houghton. The group works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor as well as pastels. There is an optional $20 per year membership donation. You may also visit the class before joining. Creek County Democratic Party Precinct Meetings at 6:30 p.m. at the BTW Recreation Center, 209 North Gray, in Sapulpa. The purpose of the meetings is to get people involved at the grassroots level. Precinct officers will be elected and suggestions for resolutions will be accepted. You do not have to be an officer or present a resolution to attend. They are looking for people who want to get involved with the Democratic Party at the most basic level. To vote in the meeting you must be a Democrat and registered in Creek County. You will need to know your precinct number. The number is on your voter registration card. If you have the newer card that shows a 6 digit precinct number, use the last three digits. For example, if your card says Precinct 190143, you are in precinct 143. If you cannot find your card, call the Creek County Election Board at 918-224-3529. The helpful staff there will verify your registration and tell you what precinct you live in. Precincts meeting in Sapulpa include 111, 112, 121, 122, 131, 132, 142, 143, 401, 402, 403, 414, 415, 416, 417, 418, 419, 420, 421, and 422. Glaze Technique Class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Painting Gypsy Studio, 619 North Mission in Sapulpa. For $15 per person, this is a great way to spend a Thursday evening! 8 Ball Pool Tournament League on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. for 13 weeks (beginning on January 10) at VFW Post 1320, 1201 West Dewey Avenue. It’s $5 per session and is open to the public! For more information call 918-512-8286 or 918-227-1320.  

Friday, March 15

Kids Day from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, 1721 South Hickory Street in Sapulpa. They will serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks and have games, activities, computers, swimming and basketball for only $20 per day! There will also be Kids Days on March 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22. Personal tax assistance by the AARP at the Sapulpa Public Library on the lower level on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program begins Friday, February 1 and ends, Friday, April 12. This is a FREE tax service, for all ages and incomes. (The Library lends the space for tax services and does not make appointments, take calls, or know details of tax prep, etc for this program. Paint Your Partner Class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Painting Gypsy Studio, 619 North Mission, in Sapulpa. They have had several requests to offer this date night again…so here it is! For $15 per couple, you receive 2 ceramic pieces of your choosing. You will add fun details like hair and eye color, favorite t-shirt/color, facial hair, etc. They will be there to help you along the way. Come out for a fun, creative date night! Saturday, March 16

Saturday Bowling Youth Leagues at 10:30 a.m. for 12 weeks beginning January 19 at Sahoma Lanes, 1499 North 9th Street, Sapulpa. Only $8 per week. Three member open teams, 1st-6th and 7th-12th grade teams. Earn points toward scholarship money by games bowled in leagues and tournaments! Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1420 East Dewey Avenue in Sapulpa. This is a FREE 12-week program conducted by Gina Wozencraft and put on by the Creek County Health Department. Through simple, graceful movements that are easy to learn, Tai Chi builds physical stamina, improves one’s balance, muscular strength, postural control, self-confidence, memory, and reduces the likelihood of falling. Spring a Furry Friend Adoption Event from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sapulpa Animal Shelter, 515 East Fife. They will be selling Sapulpa Furry Friends merchandise and personalized metal ID tags and all proceeds go to the Sapulpa shelter animals! For more information, please visit the Facebook page here.

Kids Unicorn Painting Lesson from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at The Painting Gypsy Studio, 619 North Mission, in Sapulpa. The cost is $15 per painter. This includes a ceramic piece, the studio fee and the lesson. Your child will receive step-by-step guided instruction on how to paint their unicorn. The kids will get to pick the hair and eye color. Cosmic Bowl from 10 p.m. to midnight at Sahoma Lanes, 1499 North 9th Street in Sapulpa. There will be black lights, music, and glowing pins! The cost is $60 per lane or $12 per person. Sunday, March 17

It’s St. Patrick’s Day! Don’t forget to wear green and kiss your Irish friends!

2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off and Auction from noon to 3 p.m. at West Side Christian Academy, 1403 South Cheyenne Road, Sapulpa. The entry fee is $20 for the first two entries and $10 per entry thereafter. The kitchen will open at 10:45 a.m. on the day of so you can bring your chili and get set up. The tasting and eating will begin at noon and goes until 3, or until the food runs out. There will be 20 judges sampling the entries and there will be a trophy presentation at 1 p.m. for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. The winner wins $50 and the runner-up $20. If you just want to eat, it’s all you can eat, chili, fixins, fritos, crackers, and drink, for $8 for adults, $5 for kids 5 and up, and free for kids under 5. There will be a silent auction from noon to 1 p.m., and a live auction at 1 p.m. They will auction gift baskets, a school quilt, and more. All proceeds from this event go to support the school. Fifty-Five and Alive Workout at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Faith Fitness Center at Faith Church, 1901 West 171st Street South in Glenpool. The Faith Fitness Center at Faith Church has opened and it’s free to everyone! If you’re 55+ join them for this new class.
