“The largest turnout I’ve ever seen,” Sapulpans flock to early voting

Early voting kicked off on Thursday morning and Mark Lawson did what he does every election year: he got up and went to vote early. This time though, he had to do something he hasn’t had to do in quite awhile—wait in a long line. By the time Sapulpa Times found him, he was still there, almost an hour later.

“It’s the largest turnout I’ve ever seen,” he said. The line to get into the Creek County Election Board wrapped around the corner of Hobson and Elm streets, and went nearly the entire length Elm. There was not a parking spot to be found nearby, and voters were still arriving and exiting their cars.

Ironically, Sapulpa Times recently published that voting early was one way to avoid long lines. Early voting was available at the Creek County Election Board office at 230 East Hobson Ave. on Thursday, October 29th, and on Friday, October 30th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, October 31st, from 9 a.m. To 2 p.m. According to County Election Board Secretary Joy Naifeh, there were a total of 1005 votes cast on Thursday, 1152 on Friday, and 656 on Saturday, bringing the grand total of early votes for Creek County to 2813.
