Thursday, December 4, 1930, Democrat News: Kiddies Write to Santa Claus and Win Prize

“Several merchants of Sapulpa have prevailed upon Santa Claus to judge letters of children who write him asking for various gifts and for the best letters he chooses will give prizes. This became known this week on an inside page of this issue of The Democrat News where Sapulpa merchants announce the contest. Come on, kiddies, look inside and see the contest rules and write your letter today to Santa Claus in care of The Democrat News. the merchants taking part are the Hunsecker Company, Miller and Workman, the Diamond and Gift Shop, and the Speed Queen Sales Company.”

Thursday, December 4, 1952, Democrat News: David Young is Rotary Club Speaker Tuesday

“David Young, native Sapulpan and just returned from the Korean battle front, gave a most interesting talk regarding the present Korean conflict and he related that he is of the opinion that the countries are in for a long drawn war. For the prolonged peace conference simply gives that much more time for the warning nations to build up reserve strength and stronger defense lines. Films of many scenes helped the Major in giving a very interesting talk before members of the Sapulpa Rotary Club at their regular Tuesday luncheon. Otis Humes was Rotarian for the day. Two new junior Rotarians were inducted into the club for the month of December; they were Don Bacon and Tony Brumley, both seniors and popular members of the 1952 Chieftain football team.”

Sunday, December 4, 1977, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Parade Packs City Streets

“Hundreds of spectators lined a two-mile route for the Sapulpa Christmas Parade Saturday, with more than 100 units including 20 floats entered. Among the featured attractions watched by spectators such as those that line Dewey Ave, were the Pipes and Drums of the Highlanders of Oklahoma City, a bagpipe and drum band of 20 businessmen of Scottish ancestry. Parade float winners included: $175 Grand Prize to Bible Baptist Church; $125 1st Prize to First Christian Church; Tied for 2nd Prize to Liberty Club Pack 178 and VFW. The entries tied for second will receive $87.50 each…”

“Commentary by one of America’s most famous news ‘voices’ Paul Harvey, begins appearing in today’s Herald. A native Oklahoman who was raised in Tulsa, Harvey is the world’s largest one-man commentary network. His radio show is broadcast three times daily 774 ABC outlets and some 400 Armed Forces Network outlets, while his syndicated TV program airs on 120 stations. In addition, his column appears in more than 300 newspapers. The Harvey column will be appearing in the Herald three times each week.”
