Sunday, September 19, 1954, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Earl Brixey is Elected to Head Horseshoe Club

“Earl Brixey, 8 S Oak, was elected president of the Sapulpa Horseshoe Pitchers Association Saturday morning in a meeting held at Pat’s Cleaners. Brixey, who recently won a horseshoe pitching tourney held in Tulsa, stepped into the top spot in the local club in time to officiate at the city championship tourney to be held Tuesday in conjunction with the Sapulpa District Fair. Claude C. McPhall was chosen vice-chairman of the club. He is also the city champion, and has held the title since he took it from John Terrell two years ago…Jesse Gootch, the retiring president, was named as secretary of the organization…”

Monday, September 19, 1960, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Third Theft of Medical Bag is Told

“Another doctor’s medical bag, the third within the last five days, was stolen Sunday afternoon in Sapulpa. Dr. M.S. Bartlett, 519 S Division, reported the theft of his medical bag to city police…The bag was stolen from his auto which was parked at Bartlett Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bartlett said he got out of his car and went into the hospital for about ten minutes. He returned to find the left rear door of his auto open and his medical bag missing…Two such thefts were reported to city police during the latter part of last week by Drs. O.H. Patterson and C.A. Carmack. An outburst of such thefts has been reported in Tulsa, also…”

“Voter turnout was light today as the polls opened for the $9.25 million city bond election…Voters are deciding five separate propositions including a new water treatment plant, police department improvements, fire department improvements, upgrading park and recreation, and a sales tax extension to fund those projects…The lowest turnout reported early this morning was at Lone Star School. Officials said only five voters came out in the first hour…”

“Semifinalists have been recognized in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program, and a Sapulpa High School senior is one among the 60,000 finalists from across the country. Jordan Wimmer, son of Cindy and William Wimmer, is a nominee alongside 189 Oklahoma twelfth graders. Wimmer moved to Sapulpa with the family his sophomore year in high school. Music is a life-long passion and he hopes to attend OU to study Music Composition…”
