Friday, October 11, 1907, Union News: [Various Headlines] Who is Max Meyer?…Y.M.C.A. Notes…Poles for Electric Lines…New Dentist

“Cards scattered throughout the business part of Sapulpa the past week bearing the inscription  ‘Who is Max Meyer?’ has had the population wondering, who or what Max Meyere really was. It has since developed that he is the gentleman who will put in a new gents’ furnishing store in the new Turner Building and is making arrangements to open soon. Keep one eye on Max…Since the additional beds have been placed in the annex of Y.M.C.A. the crowded conditions have been very much relieved. Men can now get a bed without waiting several hours for it. A large number of roomy arm and rocking chairs have been added to the furniture. Als a fine large writing table has replaced the older and smaller one…Several cars of poles for the street car line have arrived and are being unloaded and placed. Work is progressing rapidly and it will not be long before steel will be laid, and the other work preparatory to the running of the cars begun…Dr. W.T. Brimacombe, of Marion, Indiana, has decided to locate in Sapulpa, and as soon as he can get his room and goods will be located in the Missouri Building. For the present, he will be in the office of Dr. Pelkey, in the Soliss Building. He will also move his family here shortly, and intends to become one of the new town builders for Sapulpa.”

Thursday, October 11, 1928, Sapulpa Herald: Former Prize Fighter Guest of Club Here

“James Jeffries visited the Junior Chamber of Commerce today. The Junior Chamber of Commerce organization enjoyed a very good attendance and an interesting program at their luncheon. The program today was planned in regard to observance of ‘Fire Prevention Week’ and Bill Woodruff, City Treasurer and W.G. Ray, a local fireman, appeared on the program. James Jeffries, who is appearing on the Orpheum circuit this week in Tulsa, was a guest of the club today. Jeffries is a famous former prize fighter. Several other out of town and local people were also guests of the club. Mickey Katz, Chairman of the program for the Hallowe’en carnival reported that a meeting of the committee would be held next week…”

Saturday, October 11, 1941, Sapulpa Herald: Chieftains Lose to Webster, 19-0

“Sapulpa’s Chieftains were bounced back for a defeat last night at Homes Park before a throng of football fans by the swift and powerful Tulsa Webster High School Invaders. The score was 19 to 0. Webster’s played a spectacular game…Last night’s game was ‘Parents’ Night.’ Next Friday, the Chieftains travel to Henryetta for an encounter. It is not a conference game.”

Tuesday, October 11, 1977, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Board Favors New Highway District

“Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce Directors endorsed a resolution which would place Sapulpa in the First Highway District. The First District, represented by William Nash, includes Tulsa, Pawnee, Osage, Washington, Nowata, Craig, Ottawa, Delaware, Mayes, and Rogers Counties. Sapulpa is currently in the Fourth District, represented by Martin Clark of Ada. The district includes Creek, Lincoln, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Okfuskee, Hughes, Coal, Pontotoc, and Johnston Counties. The Chamber of Commerce also went on record of holding the annual spring livestock show at Enlow’s Arena west of Sapulpa this year. The show has been held at the old district fairgrounds west of Sapulpa but the fairboard lease on the property expired and a new county arena has been proposed but will not be ready for next spring’s show.”
