Friday, November 20, 1936, Sapulpa Herald: Thanksgiving Union Church Rites Planned

“Union Thanksgiving services this year will be conducted similarly to those last year with services in the First Baptist Church, Wednesday evening. On this date, all churches of the city will cooperate in putting on a program, commemorating the festive season. Pastors from each of the churches will take part…Many of the Sunday morning and evening services will center around the Thanksgiving seasonal theme, while others will carry out previously arranged programs, and hold the special service on Thanksgiving eve as their observation of the holiday…”

Sunday, November 20, 1960, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Firemen are Kept Busy by Outbreak of Grass Blazes

“Six grass fires which occurred Friday and Saturday in the area kept Sapulpa firemen busy and prompted Fire Chief Jack Wilson to warn people against careless fire habits. The outbreak of fires started Friday afternoon at 919 W Garfield. Firemen answered the alarm to extinguish the fire and reported no loss. Saturday’s fire activity started at 9:30am when firemen answered an alarm to extinguish a fire at 1723 S Hickory…around noon, fire at the storage yard of the Miller Sand Pump around 100 N Park…at 1:30, firemen fought a grass fire on the Land Road…a grass fire at 3 pm at 1700 E Thompson…3:15 a fire behind the Bowden school was answered…”

“Drug dealers in Creek County should fear the one being who can sniff them out better than anyone else: Blackie. Blackie, a highly trained canine, has worked with Don Wood in finding drugs in the most unusual places around the county. Blackie has found from behind furniture, in boxes, and even inside a hot plate thrown in an old shack…Students at Pretty Water School got a first-hand look at how trained dogs can sniff out drugs in almost any location. Wood with his dog led the demonstration that included placing marijuana in the stand and around the gymnasium. Wood uses the demonstration and visits to urge children to avoid drugs…”

Friday, November 20, 2015, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Downtown Lights on Holiday Season Kick-Off

“Traditionally during the week before Thanksgiving, downtown Sapulpa merchants and chamber, the City of Sapulpa, Main Street Sapulpa, and Creek County District 1, ceremoniously start the full holiday season illumination downtown. Thursday, the Community Band under the direction of Craig Amendt, entertained with holiday instrumental tunes, area schools bought kids choirs and KJRH Channel 2 live broadcast from the courthouse gazebo. Sapulpa Main Street volunteer Deidra Stobaugh acknowledged the hard work performed by local folks comprising the ‘Lights On’ crew: Main Street Director, Cindy McDonald, Sonya Rivers, Trish Carr, Lois Korn, Amber Fisher, Anna Jo Fife, Annie Bilby, and Brean Fowler and the county’s District 1 highway crew that hung the lights…”
