“Tomorrow will be a special day in the life of Fire Chief and Mrs. William M. Collier, 19 W Brunham. Although the day will come and go without fanfare, at the Collier home, it will be their golden wedding day. Due to Collier’s recent illness and hospitalization the day will be observed quietly. Collier and Vivie Ewing were married Dec. 23, 1908 at the home of her parents near Meeker. The young couple farmed there for one year before moving to Sapulpa in 1909. Collier was with a transfer company here, then Frisco railroad before going to the city fire department in 1913. His days with the fire department date back to the time when fire wagons were drawn by teams of strong, sleek horses, and he has fought fires in some of the city’s largest and most destructive conflagrations. An Oklahoman since 1900, Collier was born at Meramec Spring, MO, July 23, 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Collier have three children, two daughters, Mrs. Joe Harris of Orlando, FL, who will not be able to be with them, Mrs. Chuck Wilson, Tulsa, and a son, Roy Collier, Tulsa. They have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.”
