Fans attending Friday night’s historic Highway 97 Rivalry game between Sapulpa and Sand Springs are encouraged to use shuttle service because construction has limited parking around George F. Collins Stadium.
The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, and marks the 100th football meeting between the Sapulpa Chieftains and Sand Springs Sandites.
The rivalry began in 1922, although the teams did not play every year. Sand Springs leads the series with 49 victories to Sapulpa’s 45, while five games ended in ties. Sapulpa last defeated Sand Springs in 2019.
Sapulpa Public Schools is asking home and visiting fans to park at First Baptist Church or First Christian Church along Park Street between Lee and Lincoln avenues.
District shuttles will continuously pick up passengers along Park Street from 5:15 to 7:30 p.m. and drop them off in the parking lot near the stadium.
After the game, shuttles will run continuously for 30 minutes from the Sapulpa High School parking lot back to the churches.
Accessible and reserved parking will be available in front of the stadium. General parking north of the stadium will be very limited because of construction, while parking south of the stadium will be reserved for student groups and game workers.
The district’s clear-bag policy will be enforced. All tickets are $10, and students must wear their school identification badges or be accompanied by an adult.
The 100th Highway 97 Rivalry game is presented by American Heritage Bank.
