Sapulpa Public Schools sent out a voicemail and email to all the parents about a weapon “incident” that occurred at the high school on Wednesday morning.
According to the statement from the district, high school administrators received word that a student had a weapon “in his vehicle.” High school resource officers and the SPS security team immediately secured the student and conducted a search.
The district says that the student did not have a weapon on their person, but a gun was found in his vehicle during the course of the search. Law enforcement confiscated the gun and the student was removed from the high school campus.
School officials say they’re pursuing criminal charges in addition to disciplinary measures. “Our highest priority at Sapulpa Public Schools is the safety and security of our school sites, students and staff members,” the statement said. “At no time was the gun brought into the school or used to threaten other students or staff.”
Sapulpa Schools urges all students, parents and other members of the community to “see something, say something” to help prevent a serious event at the schools. They’ve provided a tool called Vector Alert to aid in anonymously reporting suspicious activity or “potential threats” to a school or district administrator. The tool can be found on the district website at sapulpaps.org
