Sapulpa Police Officer Austin Lopez said that he was dispatched to the Sam’s Southern Eatery restaurant at 719 N. 9th Street near Highway 97. An employee at the restaurant showed Lopez security footage of Bennett climbing the east fence and grabbing a mop.

SPD activated a K9 Unit to track down the culprit, which led them to Bennett’s residence. According to the affidavit, Bennett admitted to taking the mop. “I just grabbed it,” he said, and told them where it was. An officer recovered the mop.

A criminal check of Bennett found no other larceny charges, but he was was charged in 2017 with bringing contraband into a penal institution, and in 2019 of a criminal misdemeanor, of obstructing an officer, and public intoxication.
