A Sapulpa man with a history of felony charges is back in jail after police say he held a woman against her will and beat her, telling her he was going to “commit a murder-suicide” and threatened to kill her son.

Dmitry Vladimirovich Kopytin, 42, was arrested on charges of kidnapping, domestic abuse, and felony possession of a firearm on April 20th, but the story starts several days before, on April 16th, when the woman told her parents she was considering leaving Kopytin due to repeated instances of abuse. The Defendant found out about this conversation through listening devices he had placed in her purse. According to police, he admitted to planting the devices.
Two days later, the victim said the abuse started “right when she woke up.” Kopytin took the woman’s phone and hit her in the face, telling her they were “both going to die today.” He then got a gun and made her get into her car and drive him to the liquor store for a bottle of vodka, after which she drove them out to Pretty Water Lake, where things got violent again. According to the arrest affidavit, Kopytin pulled her by her hair and punched her in the back of the head. She began to scream and honk the horn and got out of the vehicle, at which point, Kopytin told her that if she didn’t get back in, he’d kill her son.
She returned to the vehicle and, according to the report, drove them to the Sapulpa Police Department. While there, the victim said Kopytin made several statements about going inside the department and “shooting everyone inside.” Things turned physical again as they began to fight for control of the firearm. The report says that the victim eventually gained control of the gun, pointed it at Kopytin’s head, and pulled the trigger, but it didn’t fire. She told police that Kopytin punched her “over and over again” as they drove away from the police department.
The police say they have video footage showing the vehicle pulling into the parking lot at 11:17 that morning. According to the affidavit, you can hear a female scream, and then the passenger side door opens and immediately slams shut. The screaming continues, and the vehicle begins leaving the lot. According to the affidavit, the passenger door can be seen opening and shutting one more time, before opening again and remaining open as the car pulls out of the parking lot.
The victim said the abuse continued when they returned home, as she says Kopytin repeatedly hit her and told her he was going to “commit a murder-suicide,” and threatened to burn the house down, according to the arrest report.
Police say the woman wasn’t allowed to leave the house for the next two days, until the time came when they needed groceries. Kopytin told her she could go, but needed to be back at a certain time. While at Walmart, the woman approached an associate for help and asked them to call the police. She said she believed Kopytin had some sort of tracking software on her phone, and that if she attempted to make a call for help herself, he would know about it.
According to the report, the woman had visible bruises on her face, chest, hands, back and legs, as well as a split lip, and complained of pain in her shoulder and on her ribs. She was transported to the hospital for medical assessment while police arrested Kopytin at his residence, locating a firearm. They said the gun was unloaded, but Kopytin had a single 9mm bullet in his pocket.
A criminal history of the defendant revealed multiple felony charges for burglary, possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property, and eluding. There was also a previous charge for domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.
According to the arrest report, Kopytin is on I.C.E. Hold in addition to the pending charges.
