A Sapulpa High School graduate and another man, also from Sapulpa, where among the three people killed in a head-on collision outside of Oologah on July 4th, according to multiple news outlets.
Aidan Jones, 21, a graduate of Sapulpa High School, and Ryan Lawfer, also 21 and also of Sapulpa, were among the passengers killed in the collision, along with a 17-year-old from Kiefer whose name has not been released.
Tulsa Traffic Jams in a Facebook post reported that a GMC flatbed pickup pulling a boat was traveling northbound on Hwy 169 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevy Trax traveling southbound. Jones and Lawfer were two of the three in the Trax who died either at the scene on enroute to the hospital. A fourth person in the Trax remains in critical condition. Their name has not been released.
One person in the pickup was injured. Their name is being withheld pending further investigation. Oklahoma Highway Patrol said nobody in either vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
Jones graduated Sapulpa High School in 2024 but had since relocated to Wagoner. His obituary described him as a person who “lived life in his own way, never afraid to stand out.”
OHP has not released the name of the driver of the GMC that crossed the center lane, pending further investigation. No official cause of the crash has been given, but family members of the deceased have posted messages online warning against drinking and driving.
