Tonight kicks off the Rock the Route, brought to you by Sapulpa Main Street. Already, it’s shaping up to be a premier event that will hopefully set the stage, so to speak, for even better things to come.
Cindy Lawrence, Main Street Director, told Sapulpa Times that big things were happening this summer when she informed us that they were changing the name from Rock The Block to Rock The Route, in keeping with our town’s noted location along The Mother Road.
“We’re looking at getting a lot of local talent, and I tell you, we’re going to be lucky to land some of these bands,” Lawrence told Sapulpa Times months ago. “All of these acts are top-ten in Tulsa bands.”
The first headliner to hit the stage is local favorite Weston Horn & The Hush. Calling themselves a genre of music that “spans from rock and roll to funk and soul,” Horn and the Hush brings an eclectic blend of bass and drums with catchy tunes and lyrics guaranteed to at least have you tapping your toes, if not outright dancing.
But even if you’re not sure you care for Weston Horn and his ensemble—although it’ll be hard to find anyone who feels that way—you should at least come out to see the girl who will kick things off with likely nothing more than an acoustic fender and a voice.
And what a voice!
YouTube is crammed with hopeful teenagers trying to show off their vocals singing someone else’s songs. But on Lainey’s YouTube channel, you have the common sight of a girl in front of a camera with a guitar, but you also see video after video that says “original song”. That’s right—Lainey isn’t just a pretty voice with a guitar—she’s a talented and hard-working songwriter as well.
Lainey, who began singing publicly just two years ago, has been described as “sweet and down-to-earth” and her friends say that comes out in her music. Someone who has been watching since the beginning said she has great potential, calling her “no doubt a rising star.”
Rock the Route starts tonight at 6pm at the parking lot located at the corner of Park and Hobson streets in downtown Sapulpa. Food Trucks from Alpha Grill and Nothing Bundt Cakes will also be present, and of course, a collection of classic cars. Bring your lawn chair and settle in for a good time!
