Reed Architecture hires interior designer

Reed Architecture and Interiors has hired interior designer Jingying Chen.

“She is a great addition to our team,” said David Reed, founder and principal of Sapulpa-based RAI. “She has a wonderful attitude and is eager to learn and grow.”

Chen lends an international perspective to the firm, having traveled to eight countries on three continents. She holds a finance degree from the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics and an interior design degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. While a UCO student, Chen won two SALUTE national student design competition awards and a commercial design contest by the American Society of Interior Designers’ Oklahoma Chapter.

“I have always enjoyed drawing, and my design work has allowed me to branch into painting,” she said. “UCO encouraged me to find a good concept, not be afraid to use bold colors and patterns, and not worry about making mistakes. I appreciate the freedom I have here to do these things.

“My design mission is to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also promote productivity, health, and overall well-being,” she said. “I like biophilia design; it stresses connecting indoor environment and outdoor landscape. I also like to maximize the natural light, use earthy colors, and enhance the beauty of natural materials. Ultimately, my goal is to design functional spaces that encourage people to get connected and harmonize with their surroundings.”

Her addition gives 14-year-old Reed Architecture its third interior designer.

“I really like the culture here,” said Chen, the second China native on the team.

“When I first got an email from Reed Architecture, I was encouraged by how its values stressed teamwork and cooperation,” she said. “I wanted to join a company where everyone worked together.”

Chen also appreciates the firm’s focus on projects benefitting the mind, body, and spirit. She moved to the USA seven years ago for the freedom to grow her career and live a Christian life.

“I like her drive and determination,” said David Reed. “Her faith and creativity are inspiring.”
