Pretty Water Schools will start Tuesday, September 8th

A statement sent out by Pretty Water Schools Superintendent Jeff Taylor says that classes will be delayed until September 8th.

The new start date is the result of a delay in receiving supplies needed for the start of school. “These items include disinfecting equipment, textbooks, Chrome books, and PPE for students and staff.”

“These items are crucial to a safe and successful start to the school year” Taylor said. “I know everyone is anxious for the school year to get started, but we want to do it safely.”

Pretty Water Family,

I pray that you are all well. I have had many conversations with families and students, and I know you are all excited for school to start this Fall. To say this has been a challenging time would be an understatement. I want to reassure all our families that we are doing everything possible to create a safe environment for our students and staff. Disinfecting procedures have been put in place as well as plans for social distancing in the classroom, cafeteria, playground, and busses (refer to our school opening guidelines on our website). We have received word from several of our suppliers that due to complications related to Covid-19 some of our much-needed items will not be arriving until the first week of September. These items include disinfecting equipment, textbooks, Chrome books, and PPE for students and staff. These items are crucial to a safe and successful start to the school year. I know everyone is anxious for the school year to get started, but we want to do it safely. For this reason, we have decided to change the first day of school for students to Tuesday, September 8. A revised calendar has been posted on the website.

We will still be having a few activities during the first week of September. Teachers will be contacting all parents who have chosen to enroll students in our Virtual Academy to set up a time for orientation. During orientation teachers will hand out Chrome books and explain how to get on the programs and what is expected of students. We will also be having two open houses during the first week of September for all traditional students. Parents and students will be able to drop off supplies and meet their teachers. Students with last name A-M will come on Tuesday, September 1 from 3:00 to 6:00 and Students with last name N-Z will come on
Thursday, September 3 from 3:00 to 6:00. We encourage all those attending orientations and open houses to wear a mask or face covering.

I am truly looking forward to getting school started and to seeing all of you again. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely, Dr. Jeff Taylor
