UPDATE: the victim has been identified. Details below.

At just before 6am on Tuesday morning, a man was struck and killed by a small SUV while trying to cross State Highway 66 (New Sapulpa Road).

According to Capt. Glenn Coffey, 53-year-old Timothy Shawn Bridgman was trying to cross the highway near the Guardian of the Plains Buffalo statue. Police are not sure if he was using the adjacent walking trails or why he was trying to cross the street.

The police said the driver of the SUV stopped at the scene and was cooperating with the police. They believe it was an accident and the driver couldn’t see Bridgman as he was crossing. “Speed out there is 45mph and the angle can make it difficult to see someone trying to cross the road.” Coffey said.

Early Tuesday morning, all traffic on New Sapulpa Road was being diverted onto Frankoma Road while police worked the scene. It was back to normal as of about 9am.
