In a series called “50 Stories 50 Years” an arts advocacy site called “Oklahomans for the Arts” has listed Sapulpa’s Arts program as one that provides valuable and integral programs to the communities, and shows us what would happen should the state cut the Oklahoma Arts Council budget:
Funding from the Oklahoma Arts Council is vital to the variety and reach of Sapulpa Arts’ work to bring artistically enriching programs to their hard working community.
In a single year, Sapulpa Arts provides free art classes to senior citizens through ARTeries; puts on the Route 66 Art Show to showcase local talent from all ages and media; holds Art Explore!, a week-long art camp exploring cultures from around the world through the lens of art; and hosts a highly-attended summer concert series featuring local musical talent.
The ARTeries program partners with the Oklahoma Alzheimer’s Association , Oasis Adult Day Services and adult day care center in Marietta in order to strengthen community partnerships across sectors. And Art Explore! provides opportunities for older middle school and high school students to volunteer as museum docents, fostering a direct connection between creative learning and the ability to articulate that learning.
