Richard Clarence (Dick) Smith 78, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2020. He was born on December 18, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, MO to Ed and Inez Smith. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa in 1960 and attended Oklahoma State University where he majored in engineering and participated with the university skydiving team.
Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army Special Forces and USAR from 1966 – 1971 and received the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On June 9, 1967 Dick married the love of his life, Mary Mooney. Together Dick and Mary raised two children and ran a successful plumbing and heating business. After retiring in 2004 Dick enjoyed fishing, traveling with friends and family, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Dick was known to all as a hard-working family man with a giving heart. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife Mary of 53 years; two children, Pam Hurst and husband Shawn of Aubrey, TX. and Vicki Hathaway of Kiefer, OK; four grandchildren, Rachel Henderson and husband Zack of Elk City, OK, Zach Hathaway of Kiefer, OK, Sadie Ruth and Madelyn Hurst of Aubrey, TX; two sisters, Linda Snow of Coweta, OK and Janet Smith of Naperville, IL and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Perry Hathaway, and brothers-in-law Harry Snow and Clarence Mudgett.
