Monnie Irene Roark Davis Sourjohn was born on April 16, 1929 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She is preceded in death by her husband, Silas Sanford Davis, her daughter, Clara Diane Davis Pitts, grandson, Phillip Aten, parents, Charles and Clara Roark, sisters, Violet Long, Ruth Cook, and brothers, Frank Roark and Charles Roark.
Monnie passed away on March 14, 2019 in Glenpool, Oklahoma attaining the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 26 days. Survivors include her son, Charles Davis, daughters, Denise Sproul, Judy Walters and Jana Keenan, grandchildren, Pam Heggy, Ian Sproul, Logan Sproul, Aronn Walters, Aubry Oehlberg, Meagan Reynolds and Kieran Keenan, great grandchildren, Brian Aten, Jessica Aten, Michael Aten, Parker Carlton, Olivia Sproul, Kaden Sproul, Ianna Sproul, Orion Sproul, Atlas Sproul, Madeline Walters and Ethan Walters, sisters, Lois Shanks, Lillian Cantrell, Fern Andrews, and brothers, Paul Roark and John Roark.
Monnie graduated from Vian High School in 1946. She married Silas in 1947 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Monnie and Silas resided in Taft, California for the first year of their marriage. They later moved to Tulsa, OK, where they remained until 1962 when they moved to Carlile. During the summers between 1970 and 1975, Monnie and Silas owned Sy’s Drive In at Tenkiller Lake where she worked as a manager and cook. After Silas passed away, Monnie took classes at VoTech and was employed with Valley Land and Title in Sallisaw, OK until she retired at 62. She moved to Sapulpa in 1992.
Monnie enjoyed many years attending church and her faith in God was a big part of her life. Next to her never-ending faith, her family was always her utmost priority and of course in her prayers. Monnie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed having all the family at her house, telling stories and laughing. Monnie had a quick wit that could catch you off guard and kept everyone on their toes. She enjoyed crocheting beautiful afghans which she gave to numerous people all over the country. She also spent many hours completing puzzles of all kinds and wrote many beautiful poems.
Services will be held to celebrate Monnie’s life at Smith Funeral Home, 1208 S. Main St, Sapulpa, OK on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Brother Noah Marshall will officiate the service. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Round Mountain Cemetery following the services.
