Maurine Atkinson was born January 19, 1929 in Sapulpa, OK to Herbert P. and Helen M Johnson. She passed peacefully at Covenant Living at Inverness on August 2, 2022 at the age of 93. Maurine lived in Sapulpa her entire life. After graduation, she went to William Woods College in Missouri, a girls’ school, where she met a dapper WWII Veteran who attended nearby Westminster Men’s College. The rest is history. She married Art Atkinson Jr. the next fall and they spent 49 years side by side until his death in 1999.
Maurine devoted her whole life to her family. She was the consummate wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother. Maurine never sought to be the center of attention, but relished watching family and friends enjoy themselves. The Atkinson household was a safe haven for her children’s friends growing up. All were treated special.
Although Maurine was considered shy by some, she possessed a great sense of humor and wit. She began writing poetry in her mid-forties. Her poems reflected her talent and range of emotion. Some were serious and others lighthearted.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by daughter, Mary Webb (Bill), Sapulpa, OK; son, Art Atkinson III (Kathryn), Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Matty Roberts (Emily Wilson), Arcata, CA; Cindy Robinson, Tulsa, OK; Arthur Atkinson IV, San Diego, CA; April Perry (Lane), Waynesville, NC; Laura Webb, Tulsa, OK; Amy Dossett (Patrick), Tulsa, OK; Eric Cantrell (Christy), Harrah, OK; great grandchildren Prescott and Pennon Perry, Lilly Dossett, Hunter, Hayden and Hayley Cantrell.
