Lola Mae (Hulsey) Traver, age 98, left this world for a better place on All Saints’ Day, November 1, 2019. Lola was born in Slick, Oklahoma, on May 29, 1921 to LeRoy and Effie (Zinn) Hulsey. In 1945, she married James Robert Traver in Newburgh, New York.
During Jim’s career with the U.S. Army, Lola and Jim made their home in Alaska, Texas, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Germany and Illinois. After Jim’s retirement, the couple moved to Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Lola made her final move to Minnesota in 2010 where she found a community of friends and compassionate caregivers.
Lola spent many years as a licensed practical nurse. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially with the extended Hulsey clan. She enjoyed fishing, classic country music, and TV Westerns- she was especially fond of Hoss from Bonanza. With wry wit and a playful twinkle in her eyes, she was always “fit as a fiddle and twice as screechy.” Lola maintained her good humor in spite of her declining health.
Lola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, sister Leona, and brothers Orville and Vernard. She is survived by her sisters Hazel Feeback, Ethel Faye McLaughlin and Oleta McDaniel; her children Ronald (JoEllen) Traver, Michael (Joyce) Traver and Julie (Don) Wesselman; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
