Joe Dale Stubblefield, 76 passed away June 26, 2019. Joe was born November 5, 1942 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Cleve and Louise Stubblefield. Joe grew up in Bristow where he was very involved in sports. In 1960 he was named Outstanding Athlete of Bristow High School, he ranked 2nd in State Wrestling and he earned a football scholarship to Tonkawa College.
He then met the love of his life Janet “Cookie” Simpson. They were married in 1961 and shared 58 years together. Joe and Cookie traveled from Bristow to Woodward to Healdton to Enid all for Joe’s work in the oilfields with Halliburton. They then came back to their hometown of Bristow for the past 20 plus years.
Joe loved the outdoors and passed on his passion for John Wayne, hunting, fishing and gardening to his son Cleve and daughter Jana as well as to all of his grandchildren.
Joe suffered a massive stroke in August of 1999. Although his body suffered, with his sheer determination, perseverance and grit he lived 20 plus years after his stroke in order to see his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren flourish.
Joe found his Lord and Savior later in life and was baptized in 2014.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Stubblefield. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Janet “Cookie” Stubblefield of Bristow, his brother Sam Stubblefield and wife Elaine of Bristow, his son Cleve and wife Nanette of Tulsa, his daughter Jana Beach of Bristow, his grandchildren, Jordan (Blake) Tudor, Evan (Shelby) Sheets, Katelynn Sheets, Braden Beach, Chase (Jordynn) Stubblefield, Katie (Eliot Pride) Turner, Patrick Turner and Haylee Stubblefield, and four great grandchildren, Brooksie Tudor, Ledger Sheets, Layla Stubblefield and Colt Stubblefield.
A funeral service will be held at Advent Christian Church, 1700 South Chestnut Street, Bristow, Oklahoma 74010, on Saturday, June 29 at 1:30 p.m.
