Jimmie Joe Stevenson passed from this life on June 5, 2020 at the age of 82.
He was born on January 28, 1938 in Okmulgee to Barney and Mildred Nix.
Jimmie attended Fortuna High School in California through the first two months of his Junior year. Then he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of sixteen but told them he was seventeen. He got his GED while in boot camp at San Diego and attended radar school in Great Lakes, Illinois. He was stationed aboard the USS Willard Keith (DD-775) at Norfolk, Virginia. His rank was FT2 and he served for three years during the Korean War from 1954-1957.
On February 24, 1958 he married Ruby Tilley of Okemah, Oklahoma. They were blessed with two daughters, Tina and Pam.
Jimmie used his GI Bill to attend OSU and LSU where he received his BS and MS in Electrical Engineering. During the Sixties, he worked for two Aerospace Companies to send a man to the moon. When they moved back to Oklahoma, he worked for PSO until he retired at the age of forty-nine. Some of his enjoyments in life were fishing, traveling, reading, cooking, taking pictures, working puzzles, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Another great joy was playing with his dog Pepper, watching her tree squirrels, and spin in circles.
He is proceeded in death by his biological father Barney Nix, stepfather William “Bill” Stevenson, and mother Mildred Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Stevenson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter Tina and husband Steve Johnson of Kellyville, Oklahoma, daughter Pam and husband James Farmer of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Four Grandsons: Joshua Johnson and wife Jessica, Paul Johnson, Kenny Farmer, and Timothy Farmer; One Granddaughter: Christina Watkins and husband Cacy; Two Great Grandsons: Rylan Wilkie and Rhettly Watkins; One Great Granddaughter: Haylee Wilkie; One Special Dog: Pepper.
His Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at House of Prayer at 920 S. Lynn Lane in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There will be a Military Honor performed by the U.S. Navy.
