Jean was born to Guy and Nora Jenson in Bixby on September 27, 1932. She passed from this mortal world at her home in Sapulpa on March 27, 2019.
Jean graduated from Bixby High School and attended business school in Tulsa. It was in the high school years that she met the love of her life, Donald Young of Kiefer. They were joined in Holy Matrimony on June 15, 1951. Their union produced a pair of loving children, Larry Eugene and Kathy Gay. Jean and Don enjoyed playing Bridge and Square Dancing with their many friends. Too early in years, Donald passed from this life in 1987.
Jean’s training in accounting and business allowed here to pursue a variety of positions from bookkeeping to business management and ownership. She worked with Don at Prairie Oaks Mobile Home Supplies and Sales, at International Metals of Sapulpa; Agrico of the Williams Companies in Tulsa. Jean developed her entrepreneurial side, entering a partnership as business manager of three floral shops in Tulsa. After she and her partners sold the floral business, she joined the Creek County Treasurer Office for over 10 years. She retired from the Treasurer Office in 2001.
After retirement, Jean continued to be active, volunteering as a literacy tutor and raising scholarship funds with her fellow Beta Sigma Phi members. She continued a lifelong pursuit of sewing and needle work enjoying her Creek County Quilters friends. She attended Praise Center Ministries of Sapulpa until age began to steal her mobility.
Jean passed from this life at her home in Sapulpa with family and friends present.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Nora (Cowan) Jenson and her husband, Don Young. Jean is survived by children, Larry Young and Kathy Haney, son-in-law David Haney and sister Marie Wilmott; brother-in-law John Young; sister-in-law Wanda Kelly; grand-children Christina and Denny Morrow, Shawn and Jeni Haney, Amanda and Matt Knopp, and ten great-grand-children and three great-great-grand-children and numerous nieces and nephews.
