James Scott Downing, age 74, of Sapulpa, OK, died peacefully at home on August 2nd after a two- and half-year battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 2pm, Monday, August 8, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 1115 S Boulder Ave, Tulsa, OK. Scott served in the military from 1969 to 1971, mainly stationed in Germany. After working at the City of Tulsa for 27 years, Scott retired and took part time positions at Home Depot and Lowes helping others. He spent most of his retirement being his grandkids biggest fan. Scott was known for being the friendliest person around, always striking up conversations and truly interested in the wellbeing of others. He loved people and was great with kids, probably because he was a big kid himself. Strangers knew him as the kind, friendly fellow who refused to let go of his 1983 Kansas City Chiefs Starter Jacket. Friends knew him as the guy who brought joy to the room, master at playing cards and was always teasing. Family knew him as a self-proclaimed music composer, sideline coach, and a very awkward dancer! He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmy & Wilma Downing. He is survived by his wife Lanette Downing; daughter Shannon Komeshak and her husband Patrick of Swansea IL; daughter Natalie Mallory and her husband Matt of Tulsa, OK; son Lance Downing and his wife Jessica of Sapulpa, OK; and son Nick Downing of Sapulpa OK. Grandchildren include Mackenzie, Emily & Allison Komeshak; Jeffrey & Addison Fletcher; and Daisy & Delilah Downing. Mother-In-law Mary Lou Evans of Tulsa, OK; Sister-in-law Cindy Evans of Tulsa, OK; Brother-in-law Mike Sallada and his wife Pam of Manassas, VA, as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by all. Flowers may be delivered to First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers
