James “Jim” Gattis 98, of Sapulpa, stepped into heaven on December 1, 2021 at his home.

Jim was born November 5, 1923 in Hickory, Oklahoma to Abbie and Viola Gattis.

Jim faithfully served his country in the United States Air Corp (Air Force), serving during World War 2 and the Korean War.  His unit was one of two of its type, in the entire Pacific during World War 2, to be awarded a citation by the President of the United States.

Jim was married to Martha (Marty) October 17, 1956 and they had two wonderful children, Carla and Clay.  Marti passed away in 1996 .

Jim in his 98 years served as a teacher, banker, farmer, security guard, foster parent and Girls Scouts Camp Caretaker.

He married Teata in 1996 when they met at the Oklahoma Baptist Retirement Center in Oklahoma City.  They fostered children in Oklahoma for 20 years and adopted Chloe in 2013.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marti, his sisters, Velma, Pearl and Leana.  He is also preceded in death by his son, Clay, and two grandsons, Robert and Daniel.

He was an active part of Church Inside Out in Sapulpa.  In his spare time, Jim enjoyed serving with Mobile Missions Network helping remodel a community center, holding and taking care of foster babies and grand babies.  He was such a gentle man with a caring heart and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

Jim was a faithful follower of Jesus and participated in many mission trips as well.

He is survived by his wife, TeAta; daughter Carla Coleman;  daughter Chloe Gattis; sister, Margaret Lagaly; four stepsons: Jim, Bobby, Steve, and Mike; 19 grandkids and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services, Monday, December 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Angus Acres Baptist Church, 4401 S. 129th W Ave, Sand Springs, Oklahoma.

Interment, Chapel Hills Memorial Garden, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at 3:00 PM.
