Hazel Earnestine (Higginbotham) Chambers passed away Thursday, November 3rd, at The Gardens in Sapulpa, Oklahoma at the age of 102.
She was born December 30, 1919, in Redwater, Texas to Euless and Pearl Higginbotham, one of 12 children.
During early WWII, while working at Lone Star Ammunition Depot in Redwater, she met Leroy (Pete) Chambers, her future husband. After Pete was discharged from the Air Force, they were married June 26, 1944, in Little River, Arkansas.
After the marriage they lived in Texas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. Hazel was a homemaker and had a small tax business in Sapulpa for many years. She enjoyed growing many kinds of flowers. Her favorites were Chrysanthemums. She grew them for local and state shows while living in Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years Pete Chambers, eleven brothers and sisters, infant daughter Deborah, and daughter Karen Sue Chambers Eager of Sapulpa.
Hazel is survived by her son Bob Chambers and wife Beverly of Sapulpa; grandsons Bryan Chambers and wife Jill of Roanoke, TX., Blake Chambers and wife April of Edmond, OK and granddaughter Racheal Eager of Sapulpa. Hazel was blessed with six great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Boston, Kinley, Griffin and Silas Chambers, and Lillyana Stevens.
Visitation is Thursday, November 10 from 5-7pm at Smith Funeral Home in Sapulpa, OK.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 11 at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Sapulpa.
Interment following the service at Green Hills Cemetery in Sapulpa, OK
