Evelyn Haught

Evelyn Delores Haught of Joplin, MO died on September 21, 2023, with her daughter, Nancy, at her side.

Evelyn was born on October 9, 1935, to Dutch and Lorene Brashears in Mannford, OK. She grew up in the Mannford and Sapulpa area, graduating from Sapulpa High School.

In 1952, Evelyn married Ernest Haught and they raised their two daughters, Rhonda and Nancy, on an acreage west of Sapulpa.

Evelyn was also the surrogate mother for all children living nearby, often loading everyone into the car and heading to the lake. She was always a homeroom mom and supported her girls in their school activities. As the children grew up, Evelyn worked at Jones Animal Clinic and later for Dr. James Bearden at his gastroenterology practice in Tulsa. She retired after twenty-five years of managing his office and assisting with procedures. While in Sapulpa she was active in Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, served on a RAIN team, and on the board of the Sapulpa Trolley.

In 2010, Evelyn moved to Liberty, MO to be near her daughter. She and her friends, proudly called The Penthouse Pals, enjoyed many trips together and volunteered with various groups in Liberty. As her health declined, she moved to her daughter’s home in Joplin. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dutch Brashears and Lorene Brashears Birdsong, her husband Ernest Haught, and her niece, Susan Wilcox. She is survived by her daughters Rhonda McKenzie of Turley and Nancy (husband Frank) Bryant of Joplin, MO, grandchildren Jesse McKenzie, Dakota McKenzie, Brandi Hasbrouck, and Sarah Bryant, as well as great-grandchildren Caven, Corbin, Presli, Easton, and Lincoln.

Evelyn is also survived by her brother Roy (wife Jean) Brashears of Sapulpa and their sons, Alan, Erik, and Aaron and her sister Sharon Moody and family, Andrea Deaton and Katelyn, B.J., and Oliver Schafstall, all of Norman.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Gifts in memory of Evelyn may be made to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1420 E Dewey, Sapulpa, OK or a charity of choice.
