Donna Harjo

Donna Kay Harjo entered this world March 2nd, 1949 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to parents D.A. and Rosemary Briggs. She was called back to be by the Lord’s side on September 7, 2020. Donna graduated from Weleetka High School in 1967, then attended East Central University in Ada until 1968, ultimately attending cosmetology school to obtain her hair stylist’s certificate. During this time she married her husband of 52 years, Billy Joe Harjo. In 1968 Bill and Donna welcomed their firstborn daughter, Kristie Kay, into the world. In doing so, Donna began her life-long career as a mom. The new family moved from Weleetka to Okmulgee, then to Moore, eventually settling down to their life in Sapulpa in 1975. Two years later, Donna once again became a mom as the family welcomed their son Michael Brian. As the kids grew up, Donna took a job at Kmart in Sand Springs staying long enough to get her 5-year service pin before leaving the outside workforce and becoming a full-time homemaker. She took up art classes and enjoyed painting different landscapes on canvas along with learning the art of cake making and decorating. Donna and Kristie became country music groupies and started traveling all over Oklahoma and to Tennessee watching and listening to their favorite country artists and meeting a few of them along the way. She enjoyed fishing, camping, and being around friends and family. Donna eventually became an adopted grandma and was a staple at the baseball games where her three b’s played, Brady, Blake, and Bennett Henderson. She followed the three boys around the country cheering them and their teams on, showing her support no matter what. In 2008 she once again became a proud grandma with the birth of William Aces to her son Brian and wife Tina. She helped raise him from a little munchkin to the young man he’s becoming today and she loved every minute of it. Donna was always at her happiest moment whenever she had the chance to have a baby in her arms, and babies adored her. Donna survived a breast cancer diagnosis along with other ailments including double knee replacement. Sadly in 2018 she lost her daughter Kristie to cancer but continued as best as possible by surrounding herself with friends, family, and her faith. On the morning of September 6, 2020, Donna awoke complaining of breathing problems. On September 7, 2020, she passed on from this life with her husband Billy Joe, and son Brian by her side holding her hands. She was always loved and will be deeply missed by every special person in her life. Donna is survived by her husband Billy Joe Harjo, son Brian Harjo and wife Tina, grandson William Harjo, sister Patsy and husband Tommy Hodge, nephew David Hodge and family, nephew Dean Hodge and family, extended family Lynn Henderson, Brady Henderson and family, Blake Henderson and Bennett Henderson along with numerous cousins and friends. If you ask me how long I’ll be your friend, my answer will be I don’t know. ‘Cause I really don’t know which one is longer. Forever or always?
