Donna Hampton

Donna Ilene (Smith) Hampton, a mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, was born Feb. 12,1949. She was a nurse, Sunday School teacher, comedian, entrepreneur, game player and state fair enthusiast.
Donna died peacefully Monday, Nov. 4, 2019 surrounded by family and the music she loved.
Donna was born in Sapulpa and was the eldest daughter of Fanny Alma (Conley) Smith and Donald Ermond Smith, who preceded her in death, along with her brother-in-law Jeffrey Plummer. She is survived by her husband, David Hampton; son Travis Hampton and his wife Teresa; brother Ray Smith and his wife, Mary; and sisters Fran Tweedy, Lorra Plummer and JoNell Enright and her husband Brian; father- and mother-in-law Fred and Gwen Hampton; and sister- and brother-in-law Marcy and U.K. Rao. She is also survived by nine nieces, two nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
Growing up she enjoyed spending time with her parents and riding her bicycle with her siblings. She graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1967 and then attended Bacone College and Northeastern State University. It was also during this time that Donna developed a habit of bringing home strays both animal and human, Survivor the dog being the cream of the crop.
She began her health care career while in college working at Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Sapulpa before moving to the psych ward at Oklahoma Osteopathic Medicine— as an employee, not a patient— where she made some “new friends.”
While working at a Tulsa Git-N-Go, Donna met her husband David, who worked next door at a service center, and they were married soon after. Her Angel Baby Boy Travis Keith Hampton was born Oct. 18, 1982.
She was a devoted CBS soap opera watcher since the 1960s when she watched with her mother. She also loved watching “Jeopardy” with her family.
Donna’s love for her family and friends was insurmountable. She made them a priority, and when she could no longer work, her new career became calling to check on and catch up with family and close friends, living both far and near, even friends of her late parents.
After her family and friends, Donna’s biggest love was music. While she appreciated different genres and artists, Randy Travis and Conway Twitty held the biggest places in her musical heart.
And her heart was big. Her favorite thing to do was laugh and just spend time visiting with her family and friends. We will all miss her unforgettable stories, sense of humor and infectious laughter.
