Dennis John Childress, 78 years old, passed away peacefully at his home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Dennis was born in Sapulpa on November 9, 1940 to parents John and Sylvia Childress.

Growing up he attended Sapulpa Public Schools. He joined the U. S. Air Force in 1957 and proudly served his country. On May 13, 1962 he married the love of his life, Nina (Vaughn) Childress and they had 57 loving years together. Their union was blessed with 8 wonderful children.

Dennis had various careers throughout his life. He enjoyed watching old western movies, listening to country music, spending time with his family, playing with his grandchildren, his coffee and his pecan pie with ice cream.

His greatest achievement in life was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a hard worker and a great provider for his family. Dennis may have been stubborn, but he always had a smile on his face and a story for every day.

Dennis is survived by his wife Nina Childress, son Orville Childress, daughter Elizabeth Thomas and husband Gary, son John Childress and wife Michelle, son Tony Childress, son Bill Childress and wife Tammy, son James and wife Michelle Jean, and son Alvin Childress. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, sisters Wanda Sawyer and Paulette Cooper and brother Freddie Childress. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kristie Childress parents John and Sylvia Childress and brothers DeWayne Childress, Franklin Childress and sister Peggy Bolin.

Dennis will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a great man and we take great comfort in knowing he is smiling down on us with that big smile he had for us every day.

Visitation will be held from 12-8 pm at Green Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. Graveside Services will be at Kellyville City Cemetery at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 20, 2019. The family has entrusted the services to Green Hill Funeral Home.
