Charles Napoleon Stephens, Sr. retired from Texaco Refinery, and was a life-long resident of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, died after a short battle with cancer on December 31, 2018, at the age of 81 while at home.
Charles is survived by wife, Connie Stephens; children, Barbara Ray, Jacqueline Chambers, Charles N. Stephens Jr., Bert Stephens, Stephanie Shickell, and Steven Stephens; brother, Mose Stephens; and a host of grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents, Minnie Price, Mose Stephens Sr., and Stepfather, Bert Price; wife and mother of his children, Robbie Stephens; brothers, Lawrence Stephens, Walter Stephens, and Eugene Price; sisters, Earlene Bruner and Birdie Clark-Johnson.
Charles was born in Okmulgee on March 11, 1937, to Mose Stephens and Minnie Jones. He graduated from Booker T Washington High School in Sapulpa, OK and went on to enlist in the Marines, where he served 4 years on active duty. After his stint in the military he went on to make his home in Sapulpa, OK where he married Robbie Bruner up until her death on June 4th, 2003. Charles later went on to marry Connie Reeder On September 2nd, 2006, up until his death on December 31,2018.
Charles was a devoted father, grandfather, and Uncle. He enjoyed working, debating, and taking care of his family. He was also a problem-solver who often took on difficult and unwanted projects at work and around the house. He was a spiritual man and involved in his community. He served 15 years on the Sapulpa City Council up until resigning due to his illness. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on January 7 at Smith Funeral Home on 1208 S Main St., Chaplain Cathy Haguewood will officiate. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in the name of Charles N. Stephens, Sr. Condolences may be offered at a public viewing on January 6, between 3 to 5 at Smith Funeral Home, 1208 S. Main St, Sapulpa, OK.
