Charles “Charlie” Roberts, 80, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma transitioned from this life into his eternal life on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
Charlie was born November 8, 1939, to George and Ruth Roberts in Seminole, Oklahoma. He grew up there and graduated in 1958 from Seminole High School. He was also on the Seminole Chiefs football team. Charlie played center and lettered all 4 years. He enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard and served for 6 years. In 1962, he began working at Oklahoma Gas & Electric. Also, that year, while cruising the streets of Seminole, he met the love of his life, Sharon Norman. After dating for nine months, they married on May 29, 1963, and moved to Norman, Oklahoma. There they raised their two children, Jeff and JoAnna. In 1981, OG&E transferred Charlie to Muskogee and then again in 1987 to Sapulpa. It is here where he retired in 1995 after 33 years. During his career, he worked construction, was a lineman and moving on to a supervisory position.
Charlie was an avid golfer and played in several local tournaments. Whenever anyone needed an extra player, Charlie was the one to call. He also loved to fish and often took trips with friends to many of the nearby lakes.
Charlie was a family man through and through. He was “Pop” to his kids and “Papaw” to his grandkids. Nothing gave him more joy and pride than his family. And in turn, his family adored him. He was a gentle giant. Charlie was a loving and kind man with a generous spirit. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love and laughter.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon. His son Jeff Roberts of Yukon, OK and daughter, JoAnna Roberts of Glenpool, OK. Granddaughters Jessica Bernardin of Austin, TX, Christina Parks of Moore, OK, and Keyana Harjo of Glenpool, OK. Sisters include Anita Fugua, Las Vegas, NV and Judy Ballard of Ada, OK. As well as five great-grandchildren and countless family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Roberts, sisters Donna Cox, and Mary Cooper as well as brother Glen Roberts.
