On January 4, 2021, the family, friends, Chieftain fans and city of Sapulpa lost one of its biggest and most generous citizens when Charles Edward Bundrick passed on to the hands of his Heavenly Father.

Born on September 14, 1938, Charles (“Grandpa” to hundreds) began his journey in Winnfield, Louisiana. Following his graduation from Winnfield High School in 1956, where he was voted “Most Handsome” by his peers, Charles answered the call of his country and joined the United States Marine Corps, finishing his service as a Corporal in a marine aviation squadron aboard a C-130.

Following his military service, Charles returned to school, and graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana in 1963 with a degree in Accounting. His education served him well in his positions as Senior Auditor for the Olin Mattison Corporation, Senior Accountant at United Dollar Stores, and Chief Financial Officer for the May’s Drug Stores/Drug Warehouse corporations. His brilliance enabled him to develop software that he used to co-found one of the first prescription drug services for pharmacies, RxAssist, which is still used today.

Charles loved his numerous friends and his community of Sapulpa, and was an avid fan and supporter of Sapulpa Athletics, whether through the schools or through the community. He sponsored countless teams, earning the title of honorary “Grandpa” from many youth participants. His generosity extended to giving many hours to serve as the Treasurer on the boards of S.H.O.W., Inc., Sapulpa Parks and Recreation, and Sapulpa Park Friends Foundation. He was particularly proud of his work on the new Sapulpa Trails at Rock Creek. He was also a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sapulpa for many years.

Charles Bundrick was undoubtedly and indisputably most proud of his very large family, who loved him, trusted him and counted on him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorcas Joan (D.J.) Johnson Bundrick; his mother, Annie Laura Dean Bundrick; and his father, Edward Littleton Bundrick. Continuing his legacy are his children, Angela Bundrick Eversull and her husband, Van, Laurey West and her husband, Lynn, Lanaya Johnson (McManus), Jeffrey L. Johnson, Sr. and his wife, Colleen, Shawna Sims and husband, Brad, Melinda Johnson-Ryan and husband, Scott and Laura Clark, husband Bradd; grandchildren, Alex Peiffer and wife, Laura, Laurence, Annalaura and Christianna McManus, Savannah Griffin and husband, Josiah, Jeffrey Johnson, Jr., Jacob (Jake) Sims and his wife, Emily, Jaymi Sims, Joseph Sims and wife, Haley, Max, Chloe and Nick Ryan, Charles Henry Davis, III (Trey), Kara Davis, Kale and Karson Eversull, Dakota and Devon West, and Chase, Shelbi and Brady Clark; great-grandchildren, Kara, Sarah and Amanda Peiffer, Jack, Emmett, Dusty, Declan and Indigo Sims. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Ann Bundrick Weaver and Linda Gail Keyes.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, the family will delay a celebration of Charles’ life until later this year, but will gather for a small, private ceremony on Friday, January 8th.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Sapulpa Park Friends Foundation. Mail to 727 E. Hobson, Sapulpa, OK 74066 and notate “Charles Bundrick.” Funds will be used to further the Sapulpa Trails at Rock Creek project.
