Betty Jo (Rowland) Brummett, 92, of Sapulpa, went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2022, in the presence of family.
Jo was born May 3, 1930, in Benton, AR, to John Gordon and Arkie Belle (Lowrence) Rowland. Jo was the youngest of 12 children.
She was united in marriage to Vernon Gene Brummett on December 14, 1946, in Benton Arkansas. Vernon and Jo Brummett pioneered, and faithfully pastored, Calvary Hill Assembly of God church in Sapulpa, OK until their retirement. She served the congregation along side her husband of 55 years in many roles including teaching children’s church, hosting quilting bees, making their famous peanut brittle for church fundraisers, and organizing many church parties and dinners.
Jo enjoyed spending time with her family, laughing and telling (telling again, and retelling) stories that would have everyone laughing no matter how many times she repeated the same story.
Jo’s love and compassion toward children was evidenced by her fostering more than 20 children and babysitting many more, most of whom grew up calling her “Mama Jo” or “Granny Jo.” She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Gordon and Arkie Bell Rowland, her husband Vernon Brummett, daughters Betty Jean (Brummett) DeShane, and Jo Ann Brummett, and her 11 siblings.
She is survived by her loving son, Corky (Pam) Brummett of Sapulpa, grandchildren: Rhonda (Rick) Ishmael of Sapulpa, Kenn (Elisabeth) DeShane of West Plains, Missouri, and Sherry (Greg) Riether of Broken Arrow, great-grandchildren: Shannon (Alex) Rios, Erik (Kara) Ishmael, Madelyn DeShane and Caleb DeShane: great-great grandchildren: Jackson Ishmael, Madyson Ishmael, and Charlotte Rios, and a host of family and friends.
