Arta Barbara Terry, the youngest of seven children, was born on July 9, 1931 in Tulsa, OK to John and Celia Reddout. When she was young she was known as “Artie” to her family. Barbara was raised in a Christian family and attended Central Assembly of God in downtown Tulsa as a child.
When she was 18 years old, Artie was a waitress at a drug store near the Rainbo Bakery in Tulsa. Every day a handsome, dark-haired, dark-eyed man from the bakery came in for coffee. Soon Claude Terry asked Artie out and the young waitress agreed.
Artie and Claude were married in 1950. Claude insisted on calling her Barbara instead of Artie, so she’s been Barbara since then.
Barbara hadn’t experienced a conversion to faith in Jesus as her savior until the couple began attending church when she was the age of 28. Barbara was ecstatic in her new-found faith, and shared it with whom everyone she came in contact.
She was a kind, gentle soul, and always had a smile for everyone. She was generous with a tender heart, and willing to give away anything of hers that people needed. She and Claude enjoyed serving in a nursing home ministry by using their singing/musical talents. She loved volunteering her time as a senior companion at Reaching Hands, a service organization for the elderly.
They had 49 blessed years together before Claude’s passing in March 2000.
Barbara was a wonderful homemaker, loving wife and precious mother. Her grandchildren knew her as Nana, and great grandchildren called her Granny Barbie. Next to her faith in Jesus as her savior, her family meant everything to her.
She passed from this life to her home in Heaven on June 30, 2020, nine days short of her 89th birthday. She was preceded in death by her father John Reddout, her mother Celia Shields Reddout, her husband Claude Terry, her brothers John Reddout and James Reddout, and her half-sisters and half-brothers.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Hensley and son-in-law David Hensley, two grandchildren Mary Winslow of Ozark, MO, and Michael Glenn of Tulsa, OK, two step-grandchildren April Hoyle of Terrell, TX and Cheryl Ferguson of Newcastle, OK, and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Heath-Griffith Funeral Home Chapel with David Hensley officiating.
