Anna Mae Vest of Sapulpa, passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 22nd at 10:57pm at Aspen Rehab Center in Broken Arrow. She was a beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and an amazing friend, she was 90 years old.
Ann, as everyone called her, moved to Sapulpa with her husband Neal Vest in 1963. She worked at the Sapulpa High School in the English Department and raised her sons in the community. They moved to Thailand in the late 60’s where Neal taught auto mechanics for 2 years at one of the local universities and it wasn’t long after they moved back that Neal opened Neal Vest Body Shop where they worked together serving the community in car repair until his passing in 1996.
Ann was an avid reader, loved helping others and longtime member of the First Presbyterian church of Sapulpa. She loved spending time her grandchildren, her great grandchildren…she invested in others in our community, was a fantastic cook and enjoyed the holidays. She was inventive, fearless, fiercely independent, loved to travel and always had a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by every life she touched.
Ms. Vest was proceeded in death by her first husband, Verbal Junior Griffin (killed in action in the Korean War), her late husband Neal Vest and her brother, Winfred Turner. She is survived by her sons, Larry Griffin (wife Sally) and Rick Vest, her grandchildren Lori Griffin, Adam Griffin (wife Leigh Ann), Lacey Philips (husband Erik) and her great grandchildren, Graham Griffin, Grady Griffin, Jimmie Phillips, Nealey Dake, Press Phillips and Stockton Phillips.
Services will be held on Tuesday, April 2nd at 2pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 111 S Oak St, Sapulpa, OK 74066. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Presbyterian Church of Sapulpa Memorial Fund. A small reception will proceed at the church following the service.
