In a Facebook post yesterday, Mounds Police Chief Antonio Porter announced that he would stop posting those messages to the department page and move them to a new page, called Mounds Pastoring Devotionals.

Chief Porter had come under fire from the Oklahoma ACLU for posting of bible verses and other religious-themed messages on the department Facebook Page. The ACLU said the posts were unconstitutional, and threatened the town with legal action.

Chief Porter received formal backing from the Mayor of Mounds, and even from local Oklahoma legislators, but ultimately, he said he never intended to fight with anyone, “and to do so is contrary to the message I want everyone to understand – that we need to encourage each other, find uplifting messages in our daily lives, and work hard to make our Town and society better.”
