Monday Sports Minute: Updates for wrestling, basketball, Ping Pings, FFA and more!

Wrestling

Lots of success by the wrestling team all around this weekend! The Sapulpa boys placed 5th out of 27 teams at the 70th Chuck West tournament.

  • Cavin Paper- Champion
  • Jackson Willingham- Runner up
  • Jackson Mills- 3rd
  • Ethan Peterson- 6th
  • Micco Jones- Champion
  • Isaiah McCall-Watashe- 6th

The Sapulpa girls’ continue to make history as they are bringing home 2nd place from the Tinker Cole tournament, also winning both Outstanding wrestler awards!

  • Elizabeth Courverler – 3rd place
  • Destinee Miller – Champion + lower weights Outstanding wrestler
  • Kaydance Sherwood – 3rd place
  • Liz Cope – Champion + upper weights Outstanding wrestler
  • Kassandra Buckner – runner up
  • Cassandra Plummer – 3rd place

The wrestlers have their first home dual this Thursday as Sand Springs travels to town! Matches will take place in the Chieftain Center. Please remember, we have a clear bag policy in place for the Chieftain Center.

Basketball

The ladies are coming home with 4th place from the Arkansas Tournament of Champions. Also, Tyla Heard (T.Heard.TOC.jpeg) was given the Heart of a Champion award, as well as Sophomore Riki McQuarters (R.McQuarters.TOC.jpeg) was named to the All Tournament Team. The men competed very well at the Bishop Kelley tournament, defeating Coweta but falling to BTW, and then the host team Bishop Kelley by 1 point.  Both teams bring a 3-2 overall record (both are 2-0 in district play) to their home opener this Tuesday as Durant travels to town. Please remember, we have a clear bag policy in place for the Chieftain Center.

Ping Pings

CONGRATULATIONS to the Ping Pings as they are once again 5A State Champions in the Mix dance category. They also earned 2nd place in 5A Kick plus Outstanding Costume and State Champions in social media at OSDTDA. Ensemble and solo finals and all-state performances are today and then they’ll head to DTU Nationals after the first of the year!

SHS Choir to present “Messiah”

The Blue Blazed Marvels of Sapulpa High School and choir alumni present ‘Messiah’ next Tuesday, December 12. This is the 61st anniversary of the beautiful tradition. Choir alumni can join rehearsal on Monday, December 11.

FFA

Another successful outing for the welding crew at the Westville Implement Build-off! These four boys competed against 15 other teams at an implement build-off in Westville today. Results are below:

  • Conner Lott and Bentlie Williams- 1st Place
  • Kyler Haught and Tyler Dean- 5th Place
