A Depew man is in jail after leading Creek County Sheriff Deputies on a high-speed chase before losing control and striking multiple other vehicles and a tree.

The victim called police to his house to tell them that the defendant 31-year-old Chad Hudgins, had kicked in his front door and threatened him with a gun, before leaving with two 12-inch subwoofers.

Deputies began searching for a vehicle matching the suspect’s description: a white Chevrolet Avalanche, and found it a short time later, just off of Highway 66, according to the arrest report.

When they tried to make a traffic stop, police say Hudgins accelerate to speeds of around 85 miles an hour, driving in both lanes and swerving towards another deputy who was trying to deploy stop sticks on the suspect’s vehicle.

According to the report, Hudgins was “driving erratic and had no regard for public safety,” saying that at one point he passed a school bus on a gravel road, nearly hitting it. About 20 minutes into the chase, Hudgins lost control and struck another vehicle at Highway 66 near 521st W. Ave.

Finally, a few minutes later, Hudgins lost control again and struck another vehicle, before crashing into a tree and bringing the chase to an end.

Upon arresting Hudgins, deputies discovered two other passengers in the Avalanche.

Statements from the witnesses show that the Avalance was borrowed, and that neither of the passengers supposedly knew of what was going to happen, and that they pleaded with Hudgins to pull the car over multiple times.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they found The subwoofer, and also three handguns, one rifle, ammunition, methamphetamine, marijuana, and other drug paraphernalia.

Hudgins was arrested on felony eluding and assault and battery on an officer with a deadly weapon charges, as well as kidnapping, leaving the scene of an accident and resisting arrest. He was also charged for the use of a firearm while committing a felony, and driving under suspension.
