A man was arrested earlier this week on charges of public intoxication, attempted robbery, and assault after police say he tried to rob a man and then kicked him in the face.
According to the arrest affidavit, Officer Cansas Pate made contact with 60-year-old Phillip Rattler on June 2nd at 11:46 pm to let him know that the had been “trespass warned” from the nearby hotel America’s Best Value Inn and was now forbidden to set foot on the property.
While Pate was speaking with Rattler, another call came from dispatch about an assault in the same location, and the suspect’s description matched Rattler. Rattler denied knowing anything about the matter. Pate detained Rattler in order to investigate the matter further.
According to the affidavit, Pate was able to obtain video footage of Rattler approaching a man at America’s Best Value Inn and exchanging words with him, and then kicking the man in the face.
According to the witness statement, Rattler had “smelled of whiskey” and approached him, saying “give me all of your money.” When the victim refused, Rattler kicked him in the face, and sometime later left the location.
A criminal history check on Rattler shows multiple intoxication-related charges.
