Library Corner: What’s happening at the Sapulpa Public Library in July

The Sapulpa Public Library is offering a multitude of events and programs in the month of July. Here’s a look at what’s available:

Children’s Crafts take place on the following dates at 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.: July 1, children will be making a pirate’s spyglass, July 7 kids will be creating wooden ornaments, July 14 kids will make a shaped dreamcatcher, and July 14, kids will fabricate windchimes.

Teen Crafts occur Saturdays at 11 a.m. on the following dates: July 10, Jennifer Bussey, gardener at Southwood Nursery, will teach teens about plants and gardening and students will take a plant home. On July 24, there will be a painting class with Roger Johnson. Teens will learn how to paint step by step. Painting will be on canvas, therefore, please dress appropriately. Kids and Teens Events in July at 3 p.m. are: July 8th, kids 12 and under will learn about plants and take home a small plant. The activity will be conducted by Jenniffer Bussey, a gardener with Southwood Nursery. July 15, Finer Arts, which is a series of comedic science demonstrations. July 21, musician Will Parker will perform, July 22, Sapulpa Fire Department will bring a pumper truck and let children play in the spray, and July 29 a Pizza Party for children, teens, and adults who have met certain reading goals will take place at which time awards will be given.

Children’s storytime: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Free brown bag shelf-stable lunches for children under 18, Monday through Friday 10 a.m to 4p.m., and Fridays 10 a.m. to 3.p.m.

Family Movie Night: Third Tuesday each month at 5 p.m., doors open at 4:45 p.m. One free drink and popcorn for each attendee. Anyone wishing to attend should RSVP.

Adult computer class: Third Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., anyone wishing to attend must RSVP.

Adult Book Club: Thursdays at 5 p.m. The book being discussed is “Carnegie’s Maid” by author Heather Terrell. This USA Today best-seller is a mesmerizing tale of historical fiction that asks what kind of woman could have inspired an American dynasty.

My Fairy Gardens: Jennifer Bussey from Southwood Landscape will teach you how to make Fairy Gardens. Participants must RSVP at 918-224-5624 or message SPL on Facebook.

Inter-library loans: Borrow books from libraries in the system.

SPL will be starting a seed library. Library patrons will be able to “check out” a specified amount of seeds for the season, then “check in” the same amount or more (by weight or count of the same variety of seeds saved from their gardens). Patrons may also donate their excess seeds of any variety to the seed library.

Sapulpa Public Library staff and Director firmly believe this program will significantly serve the community by providing seeds at no cost, thus increasing food security while fostering self-reliance and expanding access to healthy foods.
