What’s your best definition of what the Creek County Treasurer actually does?

The Treasurer is essentially the bank for Creek County. Along with collecting property taxes, the office also collects money from the other county offices, balance accounts, registers checks. They also collect mortgage tax, sell car stamps and issue tax warrants. There is a lot of work that goes into this office. This is a very busy office, seeing people everyday, making customer service a huge part of this job as well.

Tell me a bit about your personal and work history that you feel qualifies you to be Treasurer.

I previously served 7 years in the Treasurers office. I am currently employed by the Creek County Assessors office, in August it will be 4 years. There are times while helping taxpayers, that knowing the full extent of how each office works, has proven to be very beneficial to the taxpayer. Possessing the skills to be informative and knowledgeable is a great asset for any elected official. I’ve also worked outside of Creek County, I’ve worked in education, insurance and administrative positions.

What makes you a better candidate than your opponents?

I feel that this goes hand in hand with the last question, I’ve sat at these desks and I’ve done the grunt work in these offices. So I know a lot of what goes on behind the scenes. I won’t be coming in brand new learning a whole new job, instead I will be familiar with how the office works. I’ve worked on both sides of the Treasurers office, the tax side and the bookkeeping side. I have also completed the Treasurers and the Assessors accreditation programs. Having worked outside the county also gives me the appreciation for what Creek County offers and I will never take that for granted.

Why did you decide to run for this position in the first place?

I have always wanted this since I started working in the Treasurers office my Senior year of high school. I knew then that this is what I wanted. I had a great mentor who helped shape me. My son was also a major impact on me making this decision, he’s known that this was a lifelong goal of mine and he’s pushed me to take a step forward and do it. I have always encouraged him to reach for his goals, it was time for me to reach for mine.

Is there anything else that you feel Creek County should know about you or your campaign?

I love our community, we are one big family. I want nothing but good things to happen for Creek County and I would love to be a part of that even more than I am now. We are fast approaching the election date and I have met so many great people throughout this process. I am thankful and humbled by the support that I have received.
