A prayer vigil will be held on Sunday for Hadley Wood, the 15-year-old softball player tragically killed in a car accident on Thursday evening.

Hadley is the daughter of longtime Sapulpa fireman Josh Wood, who was driving the truck he and Hadley were in when they were struck by another vehicle near 161st Street South and South 49th West Avenue, according to multiple reports. Hadley died at the scene, according to reports from OHP.

The prayer vigil is on Sunday at 7:30pm, and will be held at the Kiefer Football Field. Participants are invited to bring lawn chairs and “hang out on the football field together” as the community mourns the loss of one of its own.

Kiefer Schools Superintendent Randy Shaw described Hadley as “an exceptional young lady.”

“I watched her catch in the bull pen on Wednesday and Thursday and thought, ‘what a great teammate’ she is,” Shaw said. “Hadley was thoughtful and polite and will be missed.”

A fundraiser for “State Bound” Lady Kiefer Trojans T-Shirts is also underway, to help the Lady Trojans honor their fallen teammate as they make their way to the State Tournament. You can purchase those shirts here, and the proceeds will go to the Wood family.

Josh Wood has worked for the Sapulpa Fire Department for nearly two decades, currently serving as Deputy Training Chief. On its Facebook Page, the SFD posted a statement acknowledging the heavy loss. “We as a department are suffering but no amount of words will describe how much the Wood family is hurting,” they said. “We ask you keep them close to heart as they grieve. We will remain strong and supporting our brother and his family as we can.”

A GoFundMe has also been set up in Hadley’s honor. See more information on that here.
