Kiefer man arrested at TeePee Drive-In after leading police on a chase

A Kiefer man was arrested after leading police on a chase that ended with him getting stuck at the Tee Pee Drive-In.

On June 19th, 37-year-old Cody Perez of Kiefer was approached by police as he sat in an idle but running vehicle reportedly stopped at the intersection of Taft and Wickham.

According to the affidavit, Sapulpa police found him passed out in the driver’s seat with an air duster canister in his lap. They tried several times to wake him before he responded by making eye contact with the officer at his window, shaking his head “no” at the officer’s commands to open the door, and inhaling from the air duster canister.

Officer Million, who filed the affidavit, said that at this point, he moved to the driver’s side of the vehicle and attempted to open the door while repeated telling Perez to turn off the vehicle. Perez instead shifted the vehicle into drive and Officer Million attempted to break the window with his flashlight, lacerating his arm in the process.

Perez then put the vehicle in drive and led police on a chase where according to the affidavit, he turned and drove 80MPH into oncoming traffic down Highway 66 before turning on Ozark Drive and entering the TeePee Theater property, which had just opened the gate for the evening.

Perez got his vehicle stuck in some of the decorative boulders on the property, and police say he tried to extricate himself from the boulders and get away but only accomplished becoming further stuck in the mud.

Police deployed a pepper ball into the vehicle to get him to comply, but Perez continued to resist until he was forcibly removed, detained, and arrested, before being sent to the hospital to be treated for a fractured orbital bone.

Police found a 9mm handgun in the vehicle, and Perez has been charged with multiple charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, eluding the police, and felony possession of a firearm.

A check of Perez’s criminal history shows three prior felony convictions for similar crimes.
