Joan was born in Broken Arrow Oklahoma and graduated from Union Consolidated High school. On September 17, 1948 she married her high school sweetheart Charles McPherson. She and Charles raised their 5 children in Sand Springs where she was long time librarian at the Prattville Library. Whether in the little trailer or the beautiful new building she got to christen, she loved her library family and reading to the children of Prattville during Story Hour. Hundreds of children heard the tales Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly, Where the Wild Things Are, Little Red Riding Hood and others in her Story Hour.

She loved being involved with her family and community by serving as organist at Trinity Baptist Church, Sunday School Teacher, Boy & Girl Scout Leader, Band Booster, and helping out just about anyone who needed a hand. Her hobbies were ceramics and sewing. An accomplished seamstress, she sewed cheer uniforms, her children’s clothes and prom and wedding gowns for her daughters and granddaughters.

Joan was a member of First Baptist Church Sapulpa where she volunteered in children’s ministry, music, and the church office until Charles retired and they travelled the country together.

Preceded in death by husband Charles, her parents, and grandson Johnny, Joan is survived by her children, Charlotte Pruitt of Houston, Charles McPherson, Jr. and wife Connie of Tulsa, John McPherson of Sand Springs, Caren Biffle and husband Jeff of Sand Springs, and Cheryl Jackson and husband Dennis of Sapulpa. Grandchildren James Pruitt, Stephanie Bryan, Lisa Vice, Charles McPherson III, Nathan McPherson, Amanda Elder, Beau Biffle, Caroline Jackson, Gabe Jackson and Kaden Jackson. Great grand children Mark Dutton III, Colton Bryan, Ashley Bryan, Warren Elder, Abby Biffle and Jacob Biffle.

Joan will be remembered at a private family ceremony. Services have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, Sapulpa.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Joan & Charles dearest charities, Sudan Interior Missions, Oklahoma Baptist Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
