Football update: Kellyville’s game against Millwood canceled, Sapulpa’s game against Collinsville will be “the one to watch”

Kellyville will get a week off after their fourth straight win of the season against the Meeker Bulldogs in a rolling 60-26 win on Friday.

On the official Kellyville Football Twitter page, the team posted that the game originally scheduled for this Friday would be canceled due to COVID-19 concerns:

The news actually broke during the Friday night game that Oklahoma City area schools would be “pushing pause” on their athletic programs because of concerns about COVID-19. Jaycob Jones, who was leading the broadcast for the Ponies on KVRising.com said the move might mean the cancelation or postponement of “three or four games” for the Ponies.

Kellyville is on a roll after the game against Meeker, where they scored their first defensive touchdown of the season, and the biggest disappointment of the night was that they didn’t meet their seasonal average score of 66 points. Kellyville will play Prague at home on October 9th for their homecoming game.

Sapulpa is 3-1 for the season, and currently ranked 7th in the state for 5A, switching places with Collinsville (4-0) after a win last week against Memorial in another great game for the Chieftains, who finished at 61-14 on the back of a defensive touchdown as well—at nearly the exact same time as Kellyville’s defensive TD.

Sapulpa is on the road for their game this week, but members of the football boosters club have told us that “this will be the game to watch.” If Sapulpa can pull out a win against the undefeated Cardinals on Friday, it’s largely believed they’ll be on their way to the playoffs. After Collinsville, Sapulpa is scheduled to play Talequah (1-3), Hale (0-3), Pryor (2-1), Claremore (3-1), and Glenpool (1-3). Of course, with as many as 20 games in the state being canceled or postponed in the last two weeks, the future of this football season is uncertain.
