Youth Services of Creek County held their annual fundraiser, called “League the Way,” on Friday, July 9th. LTW is YSCC’s largest yearly fundraiser, bringing in the most money for one event—a themed bowling competition. This year, 14 teams were able to raise just over $16,800 to help fund all YSCC does for children and families in Creek County, including parenting classes, counselling, and sheltering misplaced youth.

There was more to the evening than just raising money; teams had a chance to compete for prizes. There was the Cash Cow award for most money raised. That went to the team Friday Gals. There were also trophies for highest and lowest scores. Austin Newman’s team won lowest with a score of 225, and American Heritage Bank won the highest score at 790 points. The award for Best Dressed went to Carletti Dentistry, wearing blinking lights, elf shoes, and shirts that said “Not elfing around.” YSCC also gives an award called the Sara Lund Award to an individual who has gone the extra mile in volunteering at the shelter. The award is named after a girl who started volunteering at the age of 8. This award is said to go to the person with the “biggest heart just like Sara.” The 2021 recipient was Austin Newman.

Each year’s League The Way event carries a theme; this year it was a Christmas in July theme titled “Eat, Bowl and be Merry.” There were elves, sugar plum fairies and even Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation made an appearance.

Though smaller than years past, YSCC Director Erin Brook was happy at the number of people that came out and at the amount raised with coming off of a year where they couldn’t gather at all. “This is one of my favorite nights of the year. Having not been able to have our event in person last year due to Covid this year was a great success! We raised over $16,000. It was so fun to see everyone having a good time for a great cause.”
